Lake Chala is a crater lake in a caldera located on the border of Tanzania and Kenya on the eastern end of Kilimanjaro. This place is a real find for tourists who like panoramic views and quiet recreation. The lake is of 1hrs drive from Moshi town. It is a caldera lake fed by clean, cold underground streams from the Kilimanjaro Mountain whereby its water is well known for changing colors from deepest turquoise to emerald green to azure and the in-between colors.

Itinerary for Lake Chala day trip tour
Activity 1: A drive to Lake Chala
The day will start with you being picked up by the drive and start your drive to Lake Chala Safari Camp which is the private game reserve overlooking Lake Chala. On arrival, the guide will take you for a walk down to the Lake passing through the green flora toward the blue Lake and take caution of putting on the strong footwear as it is a rock tail.

Activity 2: Birdwatching hiking and animal sighting
It’s a stunning area perfect for hikers and birdwatchers, you might be lucky enough to spot elephants gathering at a distant waterhole when it is the season. Spend the day wandering the paths around the lake or across the nearby savannah, where you’re likely to see baboons, vervet monkeys and blue monkeys as well as (perhaps) the shy dik-dik and graceful kudu and several bird species with the beautiful butterflies in the flora.

Activity 3: Lunch and drive back to Moshi
If you’re feeling a little more active, you can jump into a kayak and take further exploration of the lake enjoying different tunes of birdsong. After this full day adventure you will stop by to some point for some snacks and drinks and drive back to Moshi town direct to your Hotel. However you can opt for the overnight stay at the camp enjoying the campfire at Lake Chala Safari camp and you will leave to Moshi on the next day.
