BUCHAREST COMMUNISM unique Tour By private car - Operating days: daily - Duration: 5 hours (10:00 – 15:00)
If you want to understand how Romanian communism worked, this tour will be more than enough. Bucharest is one of the cities in Europe that is mostly made of modern buildings – meaning it was extensively redesigned and rebuilt in the 1980s. This happened as a result of a huge earthquake in 1977, killing thousands of people in Bucharest and destroying or damaging many buildings. The earthquake, and the desire of the most famous Romanian communist dictator Nicolae Ceausescu, triggered the realization of an incredible architectural master plan, centered on the huge House of the People – the second largest building in the world after the Pentagon. The communists have built some impressive buildings and their story still captivates millions of people worldwide.
