Orangutans are adorable and are a critically endangered species that live in forests and mountains, their food being fruits, young shoots, nuts, honey, bird eggs. Sumatran Orangutans approximate 7,300 and the decline is due to habitat loss, forest fires and hunting. There are 26 orangutans at the island which serves as a Rehabilitation, Education, Breeding Conservation and Research facility, with Veterinary and nursery services.
The guide takes you through a walkabout steel fenced tunnel and belts out facts about the primates who roam freely laughing at us as we are seemingly in a cage.

There is something that you do not see everyday - Black Gold ! It is used as a purifier, remedy for upset stomach and cooking. It is baked mangrove trees which converts into CHARCOAL. after the factory tour, adjourn for a seafood lunch. Then proceed to the War Cemetery for a live commentary and photo shoots.
